Medical Director

Dr. Melanie Johncilla

MD, FCAP, FASCP

Our medical director, Dr. Melanie Johncilla, MD, FCAP, FASCP is a Trinidadian-born anatomic and clinical pathologist with two subspecialty fellowships, one in general surgical pathology and another in gastrointestinal and liver pathology. She was educated at Yale University School of Medicine and all of her subsequent training including her residency and fellowships was done at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. After post graduate training, she became an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cornell/NY Presbyterian, where she still serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor after having moved back to Trinidad in August of 2019.

Dr. Johncilla is an active member of numerous international pathology organizations including CAP, USCAP and ASCP and remains committed to providing up to date reports that adhere to both European and North American guidelines. She is active in research and continues to publish in global health, education and anatomic pathology.

From Dr. Johncilla:
Because of my interest in global health, I decided to make the move back to Trinidad. I freely admit that there are challenges here, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. And, I’m home! I can’t wait to continue using GPS to take pathology in Trinidad in a new direction, pun intended.”

Gerald Chandoo

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Our technical director Gerald Chandoo has been in the medical technology industry for the better part of two decades with extensive experience in histotechnology and autopsy pathology. After finishing his training in medical laboratory technology at the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago, Gerald has paved his own way in diagnostics in Trinidad. Founding his own veterinary diagnostics lab and providing laboratory support services for many laboratories in the country, both in the private and public sector, Gerald is committed to improving diagnostics in the country and along with it, patient care.  His skills include, among many others, tissue processing, embedding, cytology and H&E preparation, immunohistochemical staining, special staining, laboratory development consultation and laboratory optimization.  An avid cricketer, Mr. Chandoo is always looking past the boundary for ways to improve, educate and serve.
